Mary Christina Tomlin

January 28, 1953 — February 1, 2007

Mary Christina “Chris” Schupp-Tomlin
HARLINGEN, TX:
A 28-year Rio Grande Valley Resident, Chris Schupp-Tomlin, died in protest on Thursday, February 1, 2007.  Her absence will be felt by many.
Chris was born in Turlock, CA on January 28, 1953 to the late Naomi Garris Schupp and George Dick Shcupp of McAllen, TX.  In 1963, her family moved to Kwajalein Missile Range, Kwajalein, Marshall Islands, where she lived for 13 years.  While on Kwajalein, she learned to fly a plane before she could drive and at 16 soloed in a Beachcraft Musketeer.  When Chris graduated from Kwajalein Jr-Sr. High School in 1971, she was not only a lifeguard and pilot, was involved with sports, but had already traveled throughout the Orient, South Pacific and would later add many other worldwide adventures, including England, Alaska, Cozumel, and Bermuda.
In 1975, she received a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Telecommunications and History from Texas Tech University, was a member of Alpha Epsilon Rho National Radio-Television Fraternity.  She was also a founding member of Iota Tau Kappa “Frarority” at Texas Tech.  Although Chris was passionate in working with WWII Aviation History, genealogy and legal research, her career was primarily in advertising, marketing, and sales, and was employed by several Valley radio stations, an Australian tourism venue, Cole’s the Cash Register, former Marketing Director of Golden Palms Retirement Health Center, and owned her own business, The Aloha Palace.
Chris was a member of the Confederate Air Force for many years, involved in many aspects of the C.A.F., and announced several C.A.F. air shows throughout the United States.  She was a published author in the C.A.F. “Dispatch” magazine.  She was an “angel-in-traning” in the Fallen Angels; a founding member of the Order of the ROSE, and a G.O.B.I. Grand Master, a member of the red Hat Society, and at the age of 40, jumped out of a perfectly good moving airplane from 10,000 feet!
Chris was preceded in death by her parents and older brother, George Dick Schupp, Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Stanley Monroe Tomlin of Harlingen; stepchildren Dana Carrol Tomlin of Austin, Sgt. Seth Monroe Tomlin of Harlingen (currently serving with US Army Reserves-Middle East, second tour), Skeet Taylor (Maudie) Tomlin of Halringen; grandchildren Sairah Elizabeth Waggoner, and Sterling Nelson Tomlin, and family in Michigan and Florida.
Special mention of friends/sisters Mrs. Pat Webster, Mrs. B.J. Wallace, Julia Sorenson Porter, Georgette Pizzio, Kathy Wirt Bradway, Debbie Elizarde, (who are special angels on earth), caregiver Hilda Gonzalez, Dr. Darryl White, Dr. Todd Shenkenberg, Dr. Lugo, and Sandi Jo Funk Hospice.
The void left by those departed shall soon be filled with healing memories and celebrations of life for therein lies true immortality.  Enjoy the life that God has blessed you with, celebrate it every single day.
“Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out and proclaiming, ‘WOW WHAT A RIDE!’”
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2007, 3 p.m., at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 710 N. Ed Carey Dr., Harlingen, Texas 78550, (956) 423-3636.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up at Wells Fargo Bank in Harlingen.
