Mary K. Steigerwald

Mary Katherine Bowen Steigerwald “Mary Kate” passed away peacefully on Tuesday Aug. 2nd, 2016 next to her husband & longtime companion of 63 Yrs. William Edward Steigerwald. They resided at 2101 Treasure Hills Blvd. Apt # 427 Harlingen, TX 78550.
Mary was born on Oct. 8, 1930 in Ravenna, OH to Parents: Don & Laura Bowen.  Mary’s fondest memories when she was young were of her own mother’s prayers after each meal and of meeting the love of her life, William Edward Steigerwald.  She attended 2 ½ yrs. Bible School & College in Cincinnati, OH.  Mary was a Homemaker, Mother, Teacher, Musician, & volunteer employed by God. She held the position of Chief Cook & Bottle Washer of her family from 1953 to present.  Mary shared her love by volunteering during 22 yrs. at various groups including St Anthony & Our Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church’s, Valley Baptist Auxiliary, Sun Valley Nursing Home, Lions Auxiliary, & HOSTS.
Her hobbies included Music of all Kinds, enjoying puzzles & games, and was the official family champion of Scrabble & Crosswords.  Her favorite things were bible studies, reading, playing piano, & singing.  Her kids will always remember gathering around the piano, everyone laughing & singing including the dog, while she played music of all kinds.
Mary is survived by her spouse of 63 yrs., William Edward Steigerwald; Eldest son, William David & wife Jeannette & their 2 girls, Shelly & Julie; Second son, Stephen James & wife Betty & their children, Amy, Stephen, Gabrielle, and Cheri; Eldest daughter, Rita Marie & husband Gerald Taylor; Second daughter Catherine Louise & her children, Adam, Peter, Isaac, Benjamin, Paul, Seth, & Luke; the last son Christopher Paul & wife Shauna, & their three children, Arianna, Zoe, & Jubilee, as well as his first two girls, Celia & Mary Grace.  Mary & Bill have 2 Great Grandchildren, Anthony & Michael.
Our many loving memories of Mary are so much greater than her humble heart ever knew.
Visitation will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 710 Ed Carey Dr. Harlingen, TX 78550, Sunday beginning at 2:00 p.m. with a Time of Remembrance at 6:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Church 209 So. 10th St. Harlingen, TX 78550 at 10:00 a.m. Monday the 8th of August with entombment following at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.
Her family requests in lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in her name to the American Life League, P.O. Box 1350 Stafford, VA 22555.
