Mary Annice Perry

Mary Annice Bush Perry died at Holly Hall Retirement Community in Houston, Texas on Sunday, September 23, 2018.  She was born April 30, 1918, in Lubbock, Texas; but moved with her parents, Edson and Frankie Coffey Bush, back to their home in Ft. Worth, Texas.  After five years in Ft. Worth, they moved again to Lubbock, and from there to Harlingen in 1927 when her father established the Bush Supply Company.

After graduating from Harlingen High School in 1935, Mary Annice continued her education at Penn Hall Junior College in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1937.  She completed her education at the University of Texas, graduating in 1939 with a BA in History.

During her business years, she worked as the accountant for Bush Supply Company and later as Vice President and Secretary of the Board of Directors.

Mary Annice was a member of the Episcopal Church all her life and a member of St. Alban’s since 1927.  She was an active member of St. Elizabeth’s Altar Guild for 64 years, and served as Directress many times as had her mother before her.  She was also on the original committee to form St. Alban’s Episcopal Day School.

Mary Annice was a founding member of the Harlingen Country Club and the Harlingen Jr. Service League, now the Junior League.  She was also a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood serving as president for Chapters CT, T, and a founding member of FY, serving as its first president.

Mary Annice is predeceased by her parents, Edson and Frankie Coffey Bush, her beloved husband Mendel Hopson Perry, and her sister Peggy Bush Bickley.  She is survived by two daughters, Pamela Ann Walton (Mrs. Robert G.) of Center Point, Texas, and Lucinda Kay Buce (Mrs. Grant E.) of Houston, Texas.  She is also survived by four grandchildren: Robert Rizer Walton, Adam Gant Walton (Kanisha), Melissa Kathryn Buce and Natalie Buce Oliver (Mrs. Will R.) and 6 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church at a date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Alban’s Episcopal Church Day School Building Fund, 1417 Austin Street, Harlingen, Texas 78550, or to charity of choice.
