Meave; sons, John Kevin (Larizza) Meave of Rancho Viejo and John Charles Meave of Edmond, OK; two beautiful granddaughters who were the love of her life, Analia and Daniela Meave of Rancho Viejo; her brothers, Roberto (Minerva) Contreras of Corpus Christi, Reynaldo (Mary Lou) Contreras of Brownsville, Ruben (Terrie) Contreras of Harlingen; sister-in-law, Berta Contreras of Harlingen; sisters, Mary Alice (Ignacio) Magana of McAllen, Carmen Soliz of Rancho Viejo, Minnie (Charles) Baker of Brownsville, Gloria (Frank) Cierpsz of West Palm Beach, FL, Christina (Juan A.) Garcia of Richmond, TX, and Arminda (Roberto) Ysaguirre of Kingsville, TX, as well as her wonderful nieces and nephews.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Ricardo Contreras, sister, Dora C. Gonzales and a wonderful brother-in-law, Rudy Soliz.
Mary Lou had an eventful life.  She was as equally thankful.  She enjoyed the outdoors and as a family they enjoyed outdoor camping at the different camping grounds in Texas, New Mexico, Colorado and Oklahoma.  Her favorite camping site was Sam Houston State Park & Forestry near Huntsville, TX.  She also enjoyed attending and helping out with soccer, baseball, tennis and fishing.  While her sons played little league and pony league baseball Mary Lou could be seen in the dug out keeping score for her husband, Johnny.  She also helped keep the kids in proper batting order.  Mary Lou also traveled throughout the State of Texas with her sons in their tennis competition.  She can be fondly remembered as a tennis mom for she loved the game.
Mary Lou was always there to help those who were in need.  She touched the hearts of many.  Her heart was filled with compassion, love, and laughter.  She met no stranger.  She loved meeting new people and was blessed with a wonderful personality and a great sense of humor.  She will be missed very much but we know she will be in a beautiful place called Heaven.
Mary Lou attended Christian Fellowship Church in Harlingen, TX for many years and was a member of the Praise and Worship Team.  She was very passionate about our Lord, Jesus Christ.  She and her husband, Johnny, also attended Life Church TV during their numerous stays in Edmond, OK and served as greeters for a number of years.
While her sons were growing up, Mary Lou was very involved in P.T.A. and City Council P.T.A. throughout their elementary, junior high, and high school years serving as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice-President and President.  She also belonged to the Harlingen Tennis Association, Harlingen Insurance Women where she served as Secretary, Vice-President and President and Theta Omega Sorority where she served as Secretary, Treasurer and Vice-President.
Mary Lou worked in the insurance industry for several years and later worked many years with Texas Commission for the Blind and retired from Texas Rehabilitation Commission.  Both latter kinds of work had their great rewards for Mary Lou as she met and assisted so many consumers in so many different walks of life.  She would stop at nothing in order to help someone as attested by the numerous cards of “Thanks” sent to her supervisors by the consumers.  At Texas Rehabilitation Commission she was known as “Mrs. Betty Crocker”.  Mary Lou had a passion for baking and taking her baked “goodies” to the office for everyone to enjoy.  She also took pride in baking for her friends at the local bank and to her doctor’s office where they enjoyed her baking.
Mary Lou will be missed by all who knew her.  She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She was dearly loved and will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.            Visitation hours will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2008 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. with funeral services to begin at 7 p.m. with Rev. Barry Jackson, officiating.
