Mary Ellen Hill

Mary Ellen Hill, 72, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.  Mary was born in Harlingen, Texas on October 14, 1951 to Charles and Kathryn Fankhauser.

She loved children and held a license in Child Nutrition which she put to use at Mrs. Hills Childcare for over 25 years.  She also was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Harlingen for many years.  Mary had many hobbies but most important was loving her grandchildren, watching the Dallas Cowboys play, yelling for Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid of the Kansas City Chiefs,  cutting the grass and watching “the” boys play softball for fun!  She also enjoyed trail riding with the Cowboy Horseman’s Association.

Mary is survived by her son, Kevin (Amanda) Hill; her daughter, Christie (Frank Ruiz) Hill; step-son, Walter Hill (Jessie); grandchildren, Kathryn (Eli) Whilescarver, Conner Lafferty (Skylar Padilla) Trinity S. Hill, and Camryn Hill; great grandchild, Archer Hayes Whilescarver; her sisters, Judy Latham and Charlsie (Henry) Haynes; good friend, Fausto Atkinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Hill, her parents, sisters, Nina Wilcox and Patsy Moore and a brother, Charles Fankhauser.

The Hill family will receive friends and relatives at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home on Thursday, March 28, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

A graveside service will be held at the Harlingen-Combes Cemetery on Friday, March 29, 2024 at 12:00 PM  with Bro. Steve Wiest officiating.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Hill, Eli Whilescarver, Frank Ruiz and George Tovar.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Stephen Hill, Dr. Awad Ahmed and the staff on the 6th Floor at Valley Baptist Medical Center.
