Mary Jane Edwards, 78, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2008 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.
Mary Jane was born March 16, 1930 in Holliday, Texas to Gola M. and Rollie P. Seaberry.  Mary Jane attended Mission High School where she was twirler with the band for 3 years.  She was also a soprano soloist with the music group and won district honors. She graduated in 1947 and went on to attend Texas A & I on a music scholarship.
Mary Jane and Walter resided in Ft. Worth for many years.  They moved to Peoria, Illinois for 3 years before deciding to make Southern California their home for the next 40 years.  In 2003, they moved back to Texas and settled in Harlingen.
Mary Jane was one of the original founders of Mothers of AIDS Patients, and remained passionately involved for 8 years.  She also worked with the County Medical Hospital, was a volunteer and home maker.
Mary Jane loved traveling and exploring other cultures.  She loved getting to know the local people.  She traveled to such exciting places as Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania and Zaire.  She loved Australia and Puerto Rico. She also visited Egypt, China, New Zealand, Tahiti and Canada.  In addition, Mary Jane and Walter enjoyed many years traveling all over the US in their RV.
Some of Mary Jane’s other hobbies included singing, playing the piano, creating stained glass pictures and golfing.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Gola M. & Rollie P. Seaberry as well as her, son Gregory Yewell Connell.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Walter Edwards and a daughter Mae Lynn McCarthy.  She is also survived by an aunt, Ouida Gilbert as well as two stepchildren, Gwen Flener and Tom Edwards. She has two grandchildren, five great grandchildren, seven step grandchildren, ten step great grandchildren and numerous cousins.
Visitation hours will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home on Sunday, September 21, 2008 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Funeral services will be at the 8th & Harrison Church of Christ on Monday, September 22, 2008 at 11 a.m. with Danny Mann, officiating.  Entombment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria.
Pallbearers will be Gary Whittington, Bobby Sparks, Don Kretz, James Preston and Johnny Wells.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations maybe made to the 8th & Harrison Church of Christ Worship Ministry, 801 E. Harrison St., Harlingen, TX 78550.
