Martin Salazar Jr.

San Benito, TX: Martin Salazar, Jr., 78, of San Benito, TX entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 16, 2013.

Martin, Jr. or “Polaco” known by his friends was born in San Benito, Texas on July 22, 1934 to Martin Salazar, Sr. and Eloisa Lopez Salazar.

Martin, Jr. graduated from San Benito High School in 1952. He spent his life working as a foreman at Alexander Marketing Co., Marvin Schwarz Citrus Packing Co. and Spring Lake Potato Sales, Inc.; he was an avid sports aficionado, cheering for the San Francisco Giants in baseball and the Pittsburgh Steelers of the NFL.

Martin, Jr. is preceded in death by his parents, Martin Salazar, Sr. and Eloisa Lopez Salazar; his brother, Jose M. Salazar; and his granddaughters, Kandace and Amanda Salazar.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of almost 60 years, Irma A. Salazar; his children, Elia (Alfred) Saenz, Martin (Becky) Salazar III, and Marisela Garza; his grandchildren, Robin A. Salazar, Gabriel Reyna, Erick M. Garza, Riley M. Garza, Ricardo M. Garza, and Thomas A. Garza; his brother, Demencio (Yolanda) Salazar; and his sister, Dolores Salazar.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 from 3:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 P.M. at San Benito Funeral Home.

The funeral precession will depart San Benito Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 9:30 A.M. for a 10:00 A.M. Funeral Mass at St. Theresa Catholic Church.  Entombment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Serving as pallbearers will be Erick M. Garza, D.R. Salazar, Juan Pena, Baltazar Pena, Alfred Saenz, and Carlos Pena; honorary pallbearers will be Ricardo M. Garza and Thomas C. Garza.
