Marie Davies Schrantz

Marie Davies Schrantz, age 95, died May 8, 2022 at her home in Harlingen, Texas. She was born November 27, 1926 to the late Paul and Frances Davies of Stuart Place.

Marie was proud of being a native to Harlingen, a native to the Rio Grande Valley, and a native Texan. She graduated from Stuart Place School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Texas A & M University in Kingsville. She loved little children. Marie taught 1st or 2nd grades for twenty-seven years – four years at Crockett Elementary School, nineteen years at Stuart Place Elementary School, and four years at Bonham Elementary School, all in Harlingen. She also taught four years at Garriga Elementary School in Port Isabel.

Marie married Capt. Elmer Schrantz on June 9, 1946 in the First Methodist Church in Harlingen. Her husband preceded her in death May 12, 2002. They had been married 55 years.

Marie is survived by two children, a daughter, Diana Haire (Don) of Harlingen; a son, Michael Davies Schrantz (Mary D.) of Covington, Louisiana; two lovely granddaughters, Lauren Haire Watters (Eric) and their children, Teagan and Quinn Watters, and Melissa Schrantz Day (Ross) and their children, Raegan Stanford and Alice Day. Her family was her pride and joy.

Visitation with family will be Thursday, May 12, 2022 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place in the chapel of the funeral home on Friday, May 13, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. John Inserra, pastor of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria.
