Marie Evelyn Dumont Salisbury, who was born Martell, Iowa, in June 6, 1910, educated and lived in Pharr, Texas, died on Thursday, May 24, 2007. She resided in Harlingen, Texas, Rio Grande Valley, from 1936 until her death. She was married to Carl Gartin Salisbury for fifty years, who preceded her in death in 1980.
Her parents, Rosemond Vernon Dumont and Loren E. Dumont, moved from Martell, Iowa, in the early 1900s to Pharr, TX. Marie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Harlingen, TX, the Chapter CT, PEO, Fine Arts Club, Harlingen Study Club, Harlingen Country Club, Book Review Club, Music Lovers Club; and the Civic Music Association.
Marie enjoyed participation in theses activities however her greatest joy came from being with her family, traveling and playing bridge. Her daughter and extended family were the light of her life. Her faith, strength of character and cheerful, loving disposition endeared her to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Marian Dumont Bell and younger brother, Loren Eugene Dumont, Jr.
Marie is survived by daughter, Rose Marie Hendry and son-in-law, John L. Hendry III of San Antonio; her grandchildren, Stuart C. Hendry and his wife, Lee Anne Hendry of San Antonio, John L. Hendry IV and his wife, Denise Hendry of College Station, TX, Lynne Marie Hendry of San Antonio, TX and Gary S. Hendry and his wife, Tory Hendry of Boerne, TX; and great grandchildren, Emily Anne Hendry of San Antonio, TX, Anna Salisbury Hendry of College Station, TX, Megan Marie Hendry, Lucas McLean Hendry, and Grace Ellen Hendry of Boerne, TX. She is also survived by her nieces, Doris Bell Taylor, Joan Bell Seago, Barbara Sue Bell Burkhalter, Betty Jean Salisbury Stewart; grand-niece, Martha Stewart and grand-nephew, Frank Stewart.
The family extends special love and appreciation to her faithful caregivers, Rosie Martinez, Catalina Reyes and Anna Bryant for their comfort and kind attention. They truly have been one of God’s blessings to her.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 28, 2007, 1 p.m., at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home 710 Ed Carey Dr., Harlingen, TX. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, TX. Pallbearers will be Stuart C. Hendry, John L. Hendry IV and Gary S. Hendry.
