Maria De Jesus (Mendoza) Gonzales

Maria De Jesus Gonzales, 78, a longtime resident of San Benito, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 in Houston, Texas. She was born to Jose Tereso Mendoza and Elena Oliva on February, 17, 1939 in San Luis, Potosi, Mexico. She worked for many years as a seamstress.
Maria is survived by her children, Maria Teresa (Agustin) Martinez, Jesus A. Gonzalez, Jr. (Kevin James Hoffman), Alma Delia (Jose Luis Garza) Garcia, Damian Valentine (Lynn S.) Gonzales; stepmother, Hermelinda Oliva Mendoza; brothers and sisters, Victoria Guel, Gregorio Mendoza, Candeleria Oliva, Teodoro O. Mendoza, Julia Cortez, Alta Escamilla, Socorro Alcazar, Jose T. Mendoza, Rosa Perez, Amelia Mendoza, Armando Mendoza, Dalia M. Garcia; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Tereso Mendoza and Elena Oliva; husband, Jesus Amadeo Gonzales; son, Jose Leon Mendoza; brother, Jose Manuel Mendoza.
Maria’s family will be receiving friends and relatives on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home. There will be a Recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Following the mass, Maria will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jesus A. Gonzalez, Jr., Kevin James Hoffman, Damian Valentine Gonzales, Miguel Angel Suarez, Teodoro O. Mendoza, Jose T. Mendoza. Honorary pallbearers will be Erika Marie Garcia and Agustin Martinez.
