Maria Cruz (Vela) Guerrero

Maria Cruz Guerrero passed peacefully from this life on July 3, 2019 at her home in Los Fresnos, Texas, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on May 3, 1946 to Jesus Vela and Dolores Zuniga in Durango, Durango, Mexico.

Maria had an amazing gardeners “green thumb”.  She took great pleasure in tending to all her beautiful plants and especially loved yellow roses.

Maria Cruz was preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Dolores Vela; brothers, Miguel Vela and Francisco Vela; son-in-law, Hector Ontiveros.

Left to treasure her memory are her husband, Jose Luis Guerrero, Sr.; sons, Joe (Kim) Guerrero, Martin (Carmen) Guerrero, Mike Guerrero, George (Blanca) Guerrero; daughters, Juanita (Rey) Abrego, Dolores (Hector+) Ontiveros, and Marissa (James) Hoffman; fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  Maria Cruz is also survived by her brothers, Rafael Vela, Julian Vela, Celedonio Vela, Antonio Vela, Manuel Vela, Jaime Vela, Jesus Vela, and Fidel Vela; sisters, Adela Vela, Melin Vela, Rosa Vela, and Teresa Vela.

The Guerrero family will receive friends and relatives from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM on Saturday, July 6, 2019 and Sunday, July 7, 2019 at San Benito Funeral Home.  A recitation of the Holy Rosary will take place at 7:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 8, 2019 at 10:00 AM at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Los Fresnos.  Following the Funeral Mass, Maria Cruz will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Joe Guerrero, Martin Guerrero, Mike Guerrero, George Guerrero, Steven Abrego, Jay Guerrero.
