San Benito, TX- Maria Alicia Aguirre Cavazos passed away on November 17, 2012 at the age of 79 at her home in San Benito surrounded by her family.
“Nena”, as she was known by friends and family, was born is San Benito, Texas on August 13, 1933 to Tomas S. Aguirre, Sr. and Evangelina L. Aguirre. She was a life-long resident of San Benito where she attended Fred Booth Elementary and San Benito High School. She loved to fish, crochet, and work in her yard, and most of all she loved to cook for her family and have everyone at her house.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Tomas and Eva Aguirre; her brothers, Eugenio L. and Tomas L. Aguirre, as well as her sisters, Olga A. Villarreal, Piedad A. Rodriguez, Viola A. Dye and Florestella Aguirre.
Nena is survived by her husband, Andres W. Cavazos; her daughters, Rosie Garza (Johnny) Martinez, Norma (Mickey) Boland, Melinda (Tom) Goodman, and Celinda Garza (Celia Israel); her grandchildren, David (Angelica) Montemayor, Rebekah (Antonio) Hinojosa, Rachel Rose (Annuar) Nazir, Ted De La Rosa, Lori (Richie) Flores, Roland (Sonia) Garcia, Kerri (Kevin) Valencia, Anna (Josh) McClellan, Courtney Goodman and Tye Goodman; her great grandchildren, Phillip, Hannah, Andy, Alex, Richie, Jr., Melynn, Loren, Tyler, Tori, AJ, Roland, Jr., Patrick, Case, Maddie, Cole, Macy and Christian; her sisters, Corina (Rene) Pequeno and Eva Padilla; and her brothers, Jose L. “Pickles” (Rita) Aguirre, Robert L. “Bubba” (Cris) Aguirre; her sister-in-law, Emerita R. Aguirre; and her brother-in-law, Victor Dye.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 18, 2012 from 1:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a Holy Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 P.M. at San Benito Funeral Home.
The funeral precession will depart San Benito Funeral Home on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 11:30 A.M. for a 12 Noon Mass of Christian Burial at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.
Honored to be pallbearers are her grandsons and grandsons-in-law, David Montemayor, Ted De La Rosa III, Roland Garcia, Tony Hinojosa, Richie Flores, Annuar Nazir and Kevin Valencia; honorary pallbearers will be the little loves of her life, the ones that brought her such joy and laughter, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to the San Benito Boys and Girls Club, 410 N. Stookey Rd., San Benito, TX.
