Maria Ponce

María Ponce passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 20, 2019.  She was born on February 26, 1956 in San Benito, Texas to Gerónimo and Aurora Sánchez Ponce.

Maria was a retired healthcare professional having worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for 30 years.  She was of the Catholic faith and attended Our Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church.

Her parents, Gerónimo and Aurora S. Ponce; brothers, Santiago Ponce, Sr., Guadalupe Ponce, Sr., Enrique Ponce, Sr., Daniel Aguillon, Sr.; and her granddaughter, Nelda Piñón, preceded María in death.

Left to treasure her memory is her husband, Tomas Barrera, her children, Aurora Ortiz, Isabel Buenrostro, Tomas José (Yolanda) Ponce, Cynthia (Cliff) Cabrera, Lisa Marie (Mando Selvera) Barrera; 19 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Domitilo (Irene) Ponce, Sr.; several nieces and nephews.

Maria’s family will receive friends and family on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM at San Benito Funeral Home.  A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church in San Benito.  Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
