Maria Paula Mendieta, of Bay City, Texas, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2017. She was born on January 26, 1926 in Mexico to the late Tomas and Mariana Sanchez Cazares. Maria was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, who loved being around her family, and was an avid bingo player. Maria was a member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Bay City. She was an active member of Las Guadalupanas, a group of devout Christian women who are united in works of charity and religious activities.
She is survived by her children, Delia Yanez (Lupe), Margaret Ochoa (Martin), Sylvia Aguilar (Paul), Frances Mendieta, Dora White Mann (Carl), Jesse Mendieta, Debora Bueno (Demencio, Jr.), 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Tomas T. Mendieta, her son Thomas T. Mendieta, Jr., her daughter-in-law Patricia M. Mendieta, and her grandson Thomas T. Mendieta, lll.
Maria’s family will be receiving family and friends at San Benito Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 from 3:00-9:00 p.m. with a Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 351 S Bowie St., San Benito, Texas.
Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Keith Yanez, Rodolfo Garcia, Paul Garcia, II, Thomas F. Mendieta, Jesse Mendieta, Jr., and Hector Garza. Accompanying the pallbearers will be Logan Garcia, Brian Mendieta, and Claudio Cantue. Honorary pallbearers will be Vicente Sanchez, Benito Ramos, Rogelio Arevalo, Raul Tienda, Tomas Cazares, and Celedonio Ramirez. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to San Benito Funeral Home, 1400 W. Business 77, San Benito, Texas.
