Maria Ines Garcia

January 21, 1931 — December 27, 2015

Maria Ines Garcia-San Benito: On Sunday, December 27, 2015 our beloved mother and grandmother, Maria Ines Garcia, 84, was peacefully taken by our Heavenly Father while surrounded by family singing hymns of praise.

Maria was born on January 21, 1931 to Consuelo Ramos and Nicolas Guerra in San Benito, TX.  At the age of two she lost her mother and was raised by her father. She always spoke fondly of the close relationship she shared with him and the love he had for her.  She often reminisced of their Sunday afternoon walks and the sweets he would buy her.

Maria graduated from Villa Maria High School, Brownsville, TX in the late 1940s and studied to be a beautician following her graduation.  She married Josue Garcia, Sr. on October 17, 1952 and had two children.  Throughout her lifetime she worked at Fred Booth Elementary cafeteria, Sunny Glen Children’s Home, and at Baptist Temple Church.  She devoted her life to her husband, children, and grandchildren always reminding them of their blessings and praying for them on a daily basis.

She is survived by her sons Josue (Elva) Garcia, Jr.  and Arnoldo (Orelia) Garcia. Grandchildren: Nathan (Selina) Garcia, Aaron (Cindy) Garcia, Miriam Garcia and Rebeka Garcia. Great grandchildren are Hannah Garcia and Joshua Garcia. Preceding her in death are her parents, siblings, her husband and granddaughter, Sara Garcia.

“Grandma Nono” or “Bamba”,as she was called by her grandchildren, always welcomed them to her house and often prepared meals & encouraged them to eat so, “you can grow big and strong.”  She never met a stranger and will always be remembered for her conversation.

Prayer service will be held 7:00pm on December 29, 2015 at San Benito Funeral Home and the funeral will be held 10:00am on December 30, 2015, also at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Memorial donations may be forwarded to San Benito Presbyterian Church.  The family wishes to thank Reyna Morales and Becky Villarreal for providing care to our loved one.
