María Guadalupe “M.L.” García peacefully passed away November 28, 2023 at seventy years of age.
M.L. used her gifts and talent to serve her beloved San Benito community throughout her lifetime. She served on the San Benito CISD Board of Trustees from May 2017 to November 2020 and was a member of the Rotary Club.
She was a devout Catholic and a faithful member of St. Theresa Catholic Church where she was an Extraordinary Minister of Communion. She served on the church’s Stewardship Committee (Greeter), the Mary, Martha, Lazarus Ministry, La Pieta, and was a dedicated member of the Sacred Heart Society.
M.L. received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree and was a highly respected professional educator. She impacted the lives of countless students throughout her tenure as a professional educator at Villa María High School and San Benito C.I.S.D. She retired from San Benito C.I.S.D. after thirty-six exemplary years of teaching.
In her leisure time, she loved to travel.
María Guadalupe was born October 14, 1953 to the late Santiago Raul García, Sr. and Marta Pérez García in Harlingen, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Santiago Raúl García, Jr.
Left to treasure her memory are her siblings, Janie G. Martínez, Nora Montalvo-Liendo (Manuel), Estela Pérez (Ruben), Teri Rodríguez (Joey), Rene P. Montalvo (Norma), and Ricardo Montalvo (Irene); seventeen nieces and nephews; and fourteen great-nieces and great-nephews.
The García family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, December 4, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 o’clock on Monday evening. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jack García, Rene P. Montalvo, Ricardo Montalvo, Jesús García, Ángel Méndez, and Martin Carrizales. Honorary pallbearers are Mikel Gloria, Robert A. Rodríguez, Armando R. Montalvo, Heriberto Rene Montalvo, Gabriel Carrizales, T. J. Carrizales, William Hurtado, Ruben A. Pérez, Jr., and Matthew M. Pérez.

Services for María Guadalupe García will conclude after the Mass.
