Ninfa Cantu De La Garza, 88, passed away peacefully November 17, 2024, in Harlingen, Texas. She was born May 22, 1936, in San Benito, Texas.
A dedicated educator, Ninfa earned a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in reading. She was certified in Elementary and Bilingual Education and devoted 35 years of her career to teaching children in communities throughout South Texas. Her passion for education and love for her students was a big part of her life. Her religious beliefs guided her words, actions, and decisions. Ninfa remained a devoted member of the Catholic Faith.
Ninfa cherished her time spent with Christian and Nina, as well as pursuing her passions for gardening, conversations with loved ones, and of course shopping. One of her fondest memories was visiting Disney World with her grandchildren, creating lasting memories that her loved ones will always treasure.
Ninfa is preceded in death by her mother, Maria Teresa Cantu; her brother, Gaston Pumajero; and her grandson, Aaron Servellon. She is survived by her loving husband, Hector De La Garza; her daughters, Theresa Servellon and Loranda “Lori” Romero; her grandchildren, Christian Servellon, Catarina “Nina” Romero, and Andrew Romero; and her beloved dogs, Dart and Scout “Babes”.
The De La Garza family will receive friends and family on Monday, November 25, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 o’clock Monday evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Following the Mass, Ninfa will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Joseph Becerra, Roy Garcia, Paul Resendez, Joe Salinas, Ruben Servellon, and Bob Vento. Honorary pallbearer will be Christian Servellon.
