Margaret (Betty) McKeand Pietro, 82, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2015 with her loving husband and family by her side.
Betty was born in Alice, Texas to Sydney and Mildred (Rudd) McKeand. Betty grew up in South Texas and graduated from Texas A&I Kingsville with a BS in Elementary Education. Betty met the love of her life, William E. Pietro and shared a strong devoted marriage of 58 years.
Betty was educator for 32 years at schools in Georgia and Harlingen CISD including academic coordinator/assistant principal at Travis Elementary for 18 years. She was past president and member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a lifetime member of PTA, and grew up a member of the First United Methodist Church, and upon marriage became a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. She loved being actively involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren, traveling, flower arranging, cooking and playing Bunco with her friends.
Betty is survived by her husband William (Bill) Pietro; son, Dr. Michael Pietro (Martha); son, Stephen Pietro; daughter, Elizabeth Pietro Doty; grandchildren Dylan and Danielle Doty, Kathryn (Justin), John, Peter, Janie, and Hannah. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Bill, her loving husband, said he is a lucky man to have been blessed with a beautiful, wonderful, loving wife for the best 58 years of his life. Betty will be remembered for being the most caring mother and grandmother. A special thank you to Dr. Nunnery and his staff and to Dr. Six.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM with the family present from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, June 4, 2015.
Funeral services will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home at 10:00 AM, Friday, June 5, 2015 with family friend Fr. Tom Pincelli officiating. Burial will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.
Pallbearers include David Allex, Michael Biesiada, Tom Hopkins, Glenn Thomason, Paul Young and Kevin Doty. Honorary pallbearers Omar Lucio, Bill Mills and Tom Forrest.
