Greg was born February 3rd, 1950 in San Angelo, TX. He peacefully passed away at Valley Baptist Medical Center of Harlingen, TX on Friday, February 14th, 2025 and went to Heaven at the age of 75 due to related brain and lung cancer complications. He had just celebrated his 75th birthday only 2 weeks earlier.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Marel Henry and Helen Hurtado Wilson: son, Gregory Cain Wilson; and Sister-in-law, Evelon Dale.
Greg leaves behind his loving family including his wife of 40 years, Laura Dale Wilson; children Marel O’Banon (Obie) Wilson (Tanya), Nicole Roberts (Dusty); bonus daughter Alyssa Garza (Christian); daughters-in-law Wendy Rhyner Wilson and Jodi Goodwin; grandchildren Mason Wilson, Helen Wilson, Carolyn Wilson, Agustus Wilson, and Southyrn Roberts; plus bonus grandchildren Nathaniel Ortega, Madison Rankin, Willow Bochat, and Aubreyanna Roberts; his brother Blaine Wilson (Sherri); sister Donna Taubert (Dennis): and brother & sister-in-law Billy and Becky Dale: plus numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces.
Greg and his family moved to the Rio Grande Valley in 1958 where his family began farming. He was baptized in the Rio Hondo Baptist Church and attended the Rio Hondo Schools. While in high school he was active in AG, sports, band, and obtained his single engine pilot’s license as well as a commercial driver’s license where he hauled farm equipment for the farm. He taught himself to play the guitar and formed a 5-piece band who played at local high school dances. He graduated from high school in 1969 and attended Angelo State University.
Greg enjoyed music and was quite a dancer. He enjoyed race cars, hunting, fishing and wood working. He was quite the handyman. After retiring Greg spent his days with his 4-legged furry children who will miss him dearly. He watched a lot of TV which included of course Fox News (being the strong Republican he was), old Western movies as well as the new ones and series such as Tombstone, Yellowstone Virgin River, and of most recent Landman.
Greg’s highlight of the day was Laura returning home from work and them watching Wheel of Fortune, Jesse Watters’ World, Fox News and sharing a home-cooked meal together.
Laura extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Ghaddar of Texas Oncology in Weslaco, Brisa Rubio, and the family and friends who walked this challenging path and cancer journey supporting Greg along the way. God Bless you angels.
