Marcus A. “Mark” Hancock, Jr., passed away on January 29, 2009 in Harlingen.
Marcus was born on September 9, 1919 to Marcus and Willie Joe Hancock. He grew up in Dallas, Texas and lived his retirement life in Sachse, TX and Comanche, TX. He moved to Harlingen in 2003 to be closer to his daughter.
After high school he attended Texas Tech University and joined the Army Corp of Engineers during WW II. He spent his entire adult career in the Insurance field in which he was very successful.
Marcus served on numerous boards of directors including Lions, Shriners, and the Comanche Chamber of Commerce. He was a generous Benefactor to many charities and his church, the First Methodist Church of Comanche. He was a much loved and well-respected man in every community he lived.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Inez and his brother George Hancock.
He is survived by his daughters, Marcia (Irv) Bopp of Columbia, TN and Elaine (Tom) Lockhart of Harlingen, TX; his beloved grandchildren, Michael (Suzanne) Dransfield of Dallas, TX, Dedra Dransfield of Columbia, TN, Kevin (JoAnna) Dransfield of Columbia, TN, Leslie (Lee) Hollon of Harlingen, TX, Tal (Angie) Lockhart of Harlingen, TX; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Marcus had a long and fruitful life and he will be missed by all. Special thanks to the staff at Canterbury Court Alzheimer’s unit, Angel Care on Clifford, and CIMA Hospice.
A memorial service will be held at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Harlingen, 2 p.m., on Saturday, January 31, 2009 with Rev. Scott Brown, officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.
