“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (II Timothy 4:7) Marco Esteban De la Fuente of San Benito, Texas, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2017 after a brave battle with cancer. He was born on Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscada, Michigan on January 16, 1978 to Esteban De la Fuente, Jr. and Carol Anguiano. Marco was a ten-year veteran of the U.S. Navy having proudly served on the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) and the dock landing ship USS Whitbey Island (LSD-41). He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in San Benito and generously gave of his time to the Diocese of Brownsville Young Adult Ministry, led Baptism Formation classes and Confirmation Formation classes, served as CCD Catechist for the 10th grade class, served as a San Benito ACTS Core member, a Youth Group sponsor, helped sponsor the Youth Ministry Passion Play and the Christmas Play, and enjoyed volunteering for St. Benedict Fall Festival. Marco was an active member of the Texas Heritage and Independence Celebration Association and the San Benito Historical Society. Marco also loved to volunteer at the local Ronald McDonald House. He is survived by his son, Daniel Esteban De la Fuente, parents Esteban De la Fuente, Jr. and Carol Anguiano, maternal grandparents Daniel and Lupina Martinez, sisters Michelle Anguiano, Lissette Anguiano, Teresa (Tony) Arredondo, Lisa (Ruben) Gallegos, nephew Xavier Anguiano, niece Isla Gallegos and long-time girlfriend Cindy Garcia. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Esteban and Eduvijes De la Fuente. Marco’s family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Gaddar and staff at Weslaco Texas Oncology, Dr. F. Ayala at the Veteran’s Administration Clinic, Caseworker Alondra Muniz, and Dr. Castillo and his assistants for all their dedication and compassion. His family will be receiving family and friends at San Benito Funeral Home on Monday, October 23, 2017 from 1:00-9:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1300 Combes St., San Benito, Texas. Interment with full military honors will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Joey Zuniga, Keith Duble, Roger Hernandez, Victor Garza, Jorge Garcia, Jr., and Carlos Ramirez. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Daniel De la Fuente and Xavier Anguiano. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to San Benito Funeral Home, 1400 W. Business 77, San Benito, Texas.
