Manuel Becerra, Jr.

Manuel Becerra, Jr., 90, passed on 7 December 2023 at Harlingen Medical Center with his beloved grandson, “Robbie” by his side.

He is preceded by his parents, baby daughter, three grandchildren and five siblings.

Left to treasure Mr. Becerra’s memory is his wife of 64 years, Gloria Lucio Becerra, their two sons Joseph Becerra and M. Robert Becerra (Catherine); six grandchildren Alyssa Valdez (Tony), Nicholas Becerra, Jonathan Becerra, M. Robert Becerra II (Kayla Camarillo), Brandon Wooten and Anthony Wooten; and two great grandchildren Noah Valdez and Aiden Wooten. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Ramona Rodriguez, Maria LaFon and Irma Gibbs, along with many nieces and nephews that he loved deeply and that loved him.

Mr. Becerra served many years in the San Benito School district as Principal at Frank Roberts and La Encantada. He believed strongly in a quality education and set high expectations at his schools; many children benefited.

During times of military conflict, Mr. Becerra served in the US Army and US Air Force. Mr. Becerra attended East Texas State College. He was an active member in his community, serving as an election Judge and an active member at Queen of the Universe Catholic Church.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday, December 10, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 o’clock Sunday evening.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 11, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church.  Following the Mass, Mr. Becerra will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
