MMCS Malcolm D. Jones, USN(RET) of La Feria left us on his greatest deployment on Sunday, June 26th at the Valley Baptist Medical Center. Born in Winchester, IN in December of 1946 to Milton and Ila Jones, he and his two brothers moved to the Rio Grande Valley when he was young. He was the middle brother to his older brother Ebon and his younger brother Phillip. After graduating from Los Fresnos High School he put himself through barber school. He was working as a barber when he was drafted into the Navy in 1966. During his 20 years in the Navy he spent time on 6 different ships. One of his most memorable deployments was in 1966 when he was stationed on the USS Boston with both of his brothers. His final assignment prior to retirement was as a member of the Navsuflant Readiness Support Group in Charleston, SC. Since retirement Malcolm was active in organizing and attending various naval ship reunions. He spent the last 20 years as a volunteer and Goat Director for the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show. Some of his favorite pastimes involved being on his farm and raising cattle and goats, but his greatest passion was his grandchildren.
