Morrison Holmes Connelly passed away on January 27, 2007 at the age of 98.  His parents, W.P. and Maggie Connelly, three sisters and one brother, his wife, Mildred Oline Connelly and his daughter, Morline Connelly Haley, preceded him in death.  His grandson, Mark Wilson and wife, Robin Wilson and two granddaughters, Erin and Elissa Wilson all from Georgetown, Texas and one sister, Helen Adams of Proper, Texas, survive him.
He was born in Trenton, Texas on January 6, 1909 and grew up on the family ranch and worked at the family pharmacy and later became a pharmacist.  He attended public school in Trenton and then obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the Southwest Teacher’s State College in 1930.  He attended Danforth Medical School in Ft. Worth, Texas for one year and then obtained his Master’s Degree in Education at the University of Texas Austin in 1945.
He moved to Harlingen, Texas in 1934 and accepted a job teaching at Stuart Place Elementary School.  In 1936 he met and married the love of his life, Mildred Oline Connelly and in 1938 they had one daughter, Morline Connelly Haley.  For the next thirteen years he served as the principal at Sam Houston Elementary, Bowie Elementary, Travis Elementary and Harlingen High School and finally becoming Superintendent of the Harlingen Independent School District for three years.
After 17 years with the Harlingen school system he left to become the Vice President of the Insurance Division of Flynn Investments for ten years.  In 1970 he started the Connelly-Cocozza Insurance Agency and then after retiring in 1975 he was called to return to Flynn Investments where he remained until he started the Connelly and Bartnesky Insurance Agency in April of 1988.
He was active in his community for many years.  In 1952 he was president of the Harlingen Rotary club and during his term as president, supported activities in completing the Lon C. Hill Library and activities in connection with youth.  He also had 58 years of perfect attendance with the Rotary Club.  He was President of the United Fund; he was on the board of the Public Library, City Park and Recreation board and Chairman Council Training Program for the Boy Scouts.  He was Chairman of the Board of the First Methodist Church of Harlingen and taught young adult Sunday school.  He organized the Parkwood Methodist Church and at one point in his life his next door neighbor was H.E. Butt and Mrs. Butt gave him thousands of dollars to help with needy children’s medical needs.
He was most proud of his work with the Franklin Lindsay Student Aid Fund Services on the Loan Committee that assisted worthy and deserving student who may be desirous, but financially unable, of obtaining and education at any institution of higher learning within the state of Texas. He held the position as a Loan Committee Member for over 26 years.
Visitation will be from 12 noon to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2007 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Rev. Dr. John Teer will conduct graveside services at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2007 at Mont Meta Mausoleum in San Benito, Texas.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Clyde Fincher, Eddie Bartnesky and the Harlingen Rotary Club.
