Lynn Marie Poulsen Siem

d. May 4, 2019

Lynn Marie Poulsen Siem, a nurse, mother, grandmother, beachcomber and bibliophile, died May 4, 2019 at home in Harlingen, Texas, after a brief illness. She was 64.

A private celebration of life service will be held in August at Indian Shores Beach in Florida with her loved ones.

Lynn was born and raised in Chicago and lived in Texas for almost 30 years. However, her happiest place was on a beach. She relished vacation days spent watching beach wildlife, enjoying the sun, sand and water, and most of all, collecting shells. Her extensive shell collection was her most prized possessions.

She returned to nursing in 1994, caring for patients and their families at Arlington Memorial Hospital, John Peter Smith Hospital’s Healing Wings HIV/AIDS Center and Kindred Healthcare. For almost 25 years, she cared compassionately for patients and their families fighting HIV/AIDS, infectious diseases, cancer, and chronic and critical illnesses. She provided hospice care for patients, while giving support and strength to family members during their most difficult times. She was widely respected for her kindness, knowledge and incredible work ethic.

She raised two sons, Mike and Sean, at times as a single mother working three jobs. She was a loving and supportive mother to her daughters-in-law, Stephanie and Staishy.

In 2011, she became a grandmother to Ada and Sagan. They were her pride and joy, and her most favorite people in the world. She was happiest when she was with them, in person or on Skype. She instilled in them her deep love of the beach, science, reading and animals.

In addition to her sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren, Lynn is survived by her partner, Stanley Cal of Harlingen, Texas; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Mark and Carrie Poulsen of Port Richey, Florida, and Kirk and Debbie Poulsen of Woodbridge, Virginia; nieces, nephews, numerous extended family members and many beloved friends and colleagues.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a gift in Lynn’s memory to a healthcare or beach conservation charity of your choice.
