Lula Mildred Curry

Dateline: Harlingen:  Lula Mildred Curry, wife of Jess Curry for 54 years, passed away February 27, 2008 about 7:30 A.M..  Lou was born in Madill, OK on September 11, 1931.  She spent her early years at Madill and Pryor, OK.  At age 22 she met Jess Curry in Oklahoma City and they married in Gainsville, TX on February 5, 1954.  Lou has one daughter, Coni Curry Leonard and two step sons; Guy Lee Curry of College Station and Jess Curry. Jr. (Jay) of Zionsville, IN.  In 1972 Jess retired, he and Lou moved to southwestern Arkansas.  It was there they heard about the Rio Grande Valley as a winter escape and chose to winter in Harlingen beginning in 1973.  After 26 winters they moved permanently of Sunshine Country Estates in 1999.  Lou and Jess were avid dancers dancing all over the Valley.  Lou and Jess traveled extensively during retirement including 20 world cruises and several bus-tour vacations in Mexico, Europe and Africa.  Lou will be remembered by family and friends as a beautiful, spunky "Little Lady" that was always well dressed and known for her bright smile and big hug.  She always said, "I don't shake hands, I hug".  A wonderful dancer who seldom sat out a dance, Lou made lasting friends so easily they remained friends though out her life.  Jess wishes to express to their many, many friends "thank you" for making Lou's life a blast where ever she went.  Services will be held in Oklahoma and will be announced at a later date.
