Luke C. Mitchell

HARLINGEN, TX—Luke Charles Mitchell, 85, passed away on May 30, 2018 in Harlingen, TX.

Luke “LM” was born September 12, 1932 in Stanton, TX to Sadie Lott (deceased) and Artis Mitchell. LM attended Phyllis Wheatley High School in Houston, TX and graduated from Carver High School in Naples, TX (Class of ’52). It was Carver High School where LM first met his future wife Charlie Mae Buster whom he lovingly referred to as “Dove”. LM continued his education at Prairie View A & M University. He left Prairie View and soon entered the Air Force. LM made the military his career, proudly serving for 34 years most notably as a Flight Equipment Technician.

LM reconnected with his high school classmate Charlie Mae Jackson in Harlingen and they began a life together. LM loved “Dove” and her kids.  He loved having a good time, especially playing dominos, attending Johnnie’s sporting events, kidding around with his grandkids and telling stories and boy did he have some stories. LM was truly a man of faith and of God.

LM is survived by his wife: Charlie Mae Jackson-Mitchell; his step children: Donnie Ray Buster (deceased), Randall Buster (Nelda), Carolyn Buster (deceased), Sheila Jackson, Alma Vasquez, Lonnie Jackson, Jr., Vivian Jackson (deceased), Johnnie Jackson (Nina), grandkids: Gerald Allen II, Natasha Jackson (Maurice), Reba Gibson (Robert), Elizabeth Jackson, Natalie Beaudoin (Sean), Amanda Lee Jackson (deceased), Bianca Smith, Marlow Jackson, Kimberley Vasquez, great grandkids: Vanessa, Jeremiah, Maurice Jr. “MJ”, Noahkin, Noah and Grace and  a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 18, 2018. Viewing will begin at 9:00 am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am, Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 710 Ed Carey Drive, Harlingen, TX 78550.  Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, TX.
