Luis Benavides

Luis “Rudy” Benavides Jr., 80, passed away peacefully July 30, 2024 in Harlingen, Texas. He was born December 21, 1943 in San Benito, Texas to Luis Benavides and Lily Garcia Benavides.

Rudy pursued his education at Pan American University and obtained a Bachelor's Degree. He dedicated 43 years of his life working for Harlingen CISD and the San Benito CISD before retiring. A devout member of St. Benedict Catholic Church.

Rudy enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family listening to music and BBQ meals.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Elva Benavides; granddaughter, Elva Jannisa Machuca; his father, Luis Benavides Sr; mother, Lily Garcia Benavides; and his siblings, Hector Benavides, Herminia Jimenez (Roberto), Maria Elena Diaz (Felipe), Maria Luisa Gonzalez (Pete), Josefina Gutierrez (Luis), Sara Camacho (Juan), and Pete Benavides.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janie M. Benavides; his children, Luis Benavides (Dina), Armando Benavides (Renee), Velma Benavides Machuca (Johnny); and his grandchildren, Louie Benavides (Jewelle), Stephanie Benavides, Lucas Benavides, Faith Benavides, Johnny Machuca, and Dean Machuca; his sisters, Clara Lopez (Tony†), Armandina Luna (Rene), Oralia Benavides (Victor Bustos†), and his sisters-in-law, Maria Luisa Benavides and Janie Benavides.

The Benavides family extends heartfelt gratitude to friends and family for their love and prayers.

The Benavides family will receive friends and relatives on Monday, August 5, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 o’clock Monday evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Following the Mass, Rudy will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Luis Benavides, Armando Benavides, Louie Benavides, Johnny Machuca, Jesse Benavides, Raymond Canales. Honorary pallbearers are Henry Jimenez, Red Molbe, and Eloy Rodriguez.
