Brownsville:
Luciano Chavez, Sr., 82, of Brownsville and San Perlita, Texas entered into eternal rest on August 26, 2014 in Harlingen, Texas after a courageous 10 year battle against Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born in Los Potreros Ranch on September 25, 1931 to Antonio and Catarina Chavez.
Luciano is survived by his wife, Esther G. Chavez, son, Luciano (Magdalena) Chavez, Jr., daughters Teresa A. Chavez and Maria Angelica “Angie” (Mark) Chavez-Trevino, grandsons Diego A. Chavez and Memphis A. Trevino, and granddaughters, Alejandra P. Chavez, Gabriela Chavez, and Katarina C. Chavez.
Luciano was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Catarina Chavez, and his siblings, Francisco Chavez, Francisca C. Ahumada, Maria C. Cuellar, Jose Chavez, and Antonio Chavez, Jr.
Luciano, before his illness, was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Brownsville, Texas. He enjoyed collecting fishing rods and reels, and accordion music, especially Nick “Nicky Snick” Villarreal.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 28, 2014 from 1:00 until 9:00 pm with Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 pm at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 710 North Ed Carey Drive in Harlingen, Texas.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 29, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthonys Catholic Church 1015 E. Van Buren in Harlingen, Texas. Per Luciano’s wish, his ashes will be interred at Chavez’ Family Cemetery.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Luciano Chavez, Jr., Diego A. Chavez, and Mark Trevino. Honorary pallbearer is Memphis A. Trevino.
