Lowell Anton Holmes, 85 years old died April 13, 2015. He was born September 11, 1929 in McAllen, TX. Lowell grew up in Donna, TX. He graduated valedictorian from Donna High School in 1948. He then received the Jesse Jones Agriculture 4 year scholarship from Texas A & M University. While attending Texas A & M University, he was leader of the maroon band and graduated with an Agricultural Engineering degree. After graduating from Texas A & M, he fulfilled his 4 year obligation serving as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Alaska. He then returned to the Rio Grande Valley where he married the love of his life Jeanice Ann Hedrick and started his career with Valley Ready Mix Concrete. In 1967, Lowell joined Valcon Inc as a Professional Engineer partnering with Max Burkhart and Farris Shannon where they were pioneers in
"tilt wall" construction. Lowell retired from Valcon Inc in 2012. He was a member of St Albans Episcopal Church, the Rotary Club, Boy Scouts of America and served as President of the Harlingen Country Club. Lowell was an avid golfer, racquetball player and fisherman.
Lowell is survived by his sister Ritchie Solether, son Arthur Holmes and wife Veronica, son Kurt Holmes and wife Cindy, and daughter Kalyn Sandlin and husband Joseph, grandchildren Kristen and Christopher Holmes, and Alex Sandlin.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jeanice, brother Brad Holmes, father and mother Richard and Irma Holmes.
Visitation will be at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home in Harlingen, Thursday 4/16 from 3 to 9 pm with the family present from 5 to 7 pm.
The service will be Friday 4/17, 11:00 am at St Albans Episcopal Church in Harlingen followed by a reception at the parish hall.
Honorary Pallbearers are Haskall Motherall, Les Swanson, Max Burkhart, James
Cocke, David Day and Bill Guthrie.
