Lois M. "Judy" Cox

June 25, 1930 — October 23, 2022

Lois Marie “Judy” Cox and her twin brother, Lloyd Lee “Jack”, were born on June 25, 1930 in Troupe, Texas to parents Charlie Lee and Corrie Ellen Hamilton. Judy passed away on October 23, 2022 at Golden Palms in Harlingen, Texas.

Judy married the love of her life, Douglas Allen “Jack” Cox on December 7, 1950, and they had been married thirty-eight years at the time of his passing in 1988.

Throughout her career, for thirty years, Judy worked in several cafeterias of the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District. She also served in the nursery at First Baptist Church of Rio Hondo for over thirty years, loving on the babies and their families. Additionally, she faithfully attended the church’s weekly Ladies’ Bible Study.

Her character is best depicted in the Gospel of Mark 12:40-44, when the Messiah encounters a poor widow who selflessly gives all she has to offer. To those who knew Judy well, this Scriptural example highlights precisely how she lived her life, by serving others and treating the very least among us with dignity. She often gave of herself and her humble means during times where most others would have simply asserted that they only had enough for themselves.

Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her parents, Charlie L. and Corrie E. Hamilton; her twin brother, Jack Hamilton; her brother, Chester Hamilton; her sisters, Ida Strickland and Nell Watson; her daughter-in-law, Claudia Cox; and her son-in-law, Melvin Adams.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Douglas Cox, Roxie Adams, and William “Willie” Cox; her four grandchildren, Melanie (Jeff) Graham, Becky (James) Drain, Heather Cathleen Cox (whom she raised as a daughter), and Alan Cox; her three great-grandchildren, Cody Adams, Lily Drain, and Zoey Drain; and her two sisters-in-law, Betty Gale Hamilton and Loretta Hamilton.

Judy’s children would like to especially thank the caring staff members at Kindred Hospice as well as the attentive workers at Golden Palms Rehabilitation and Retirement.

The family will receive relatives and friends Friday, October 28, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home.
