Lloyd Earl Grayson, 88, passed away Friday, March 13, 2015 at Valley Baptist Medical Center. Lloyd was born July 31, 1926 in Harlingen, Texas to Earl and Ovie Grayson. He served his country during WWII with the South Pacific Theater and fought in the Battle of Leyte Gulf on the “USS White Planes”. Lloyd married Mary Ann Hill on December 1946 and they were married for 68 years. He was employed with Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific Railroad for 40 years; his first position held was as a telegrapher and retired as Chief Clerk in Brownsville, Texas. Lloyd was of the Baptist faith and was instrumental in helping the Arroyo Baptist Chapel from its beginning. He enjoyed fishing at the Laguna Madre and hunting in the great outdoors.
Lloyd is survived by his wife Mary Ann Hill Grayson of Harlingen; son, Gary Lloyd Grayson and wife Grace of Angelton, TX; sister, Patsy Hildebrand of Pasadena, TX; grandsons, Christopher Lloyd Grayson of Angelton, TX and Jeffrey Earl Grayson of Angelton, TX; and nephews, Elvin and Eric Grayson and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ovie Grayson; brothers, Estel and Wayne Grayson; and sister, Louise Johnston.
Visitation hours will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
A graveside service will be on Monday, March 16, 2015, at 2:00 p.m., at Harlingen-Combes Cemetery with Rev. Chris Hall officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the VFW Post 2035.
