February 5, 1920 — September 9, 2018

Lillian Hollabaugh left her earthly life on September 9, 2018.

Born in Elyria, Ohio, on February 5, 1920, to James and Irene Bloom Carroll, her family moved to Detroit, Michigan, when she was 7.  Lillian graduated from the High School of Commerce in 1937 and took various courses at the University of Detroit.

Lillian began working at Detroit Edison in 1939 as a typist, working her way up to her appointment to Assistant Secretary of the Company and its five subsidiary companies in 1967.  She retired in 1977.

Lillian was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a Past Matron of the Ashlar Chapter in Michigan.  She served as a board member at Mount Carmel Hospital in Detroit.  In addition to being a 20-year member of the National Associations of Accountants, she was a director of the Board of Edison Athletic Association and a member of the Edison Boat Club.  In addition, she was a long-time member and past president of the Detroit chapter of Zonta International, and has served in various capacities at her church.

Her hobbies included gardening, reading, genealogy, computing, ham radio operation (WD8JVS), and quilting.  She belonged to both the Frontera Quilt Guild and the Rio Grande Valley Quilt Guild, as well as several quilting bee groups.

In 1975 she married her long-time friend, Raymond Hollabaugh, and they traveled all over the country, spending much of their summers in their home on Lake Huron in Cheyboygan, MI, and wintered in Texas, soon becoming fulltime residents of Texas, first in Mission, and then in Harlingen.

Lillian was preceded in death by her husband in 1998, and her brother, Donald Carroll, in 2001.  She is survived by 3 nieces, Sharon Trammell, Joy Beth Sturgis, Janet Moore, and 3 nephews, Mark Carroll, Scott Carroll, and Craig Carroll, and her granddaughter, Barbara Justice, as well as many, many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Buck Ashcroft Funeral Home in Harlingen from 2-6 p.m. on Monday, September 10.  A brief eulogy will be given at the end of calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to one of Lillian’s favorite charities, Habitat for Humanity, or another charity of your choice.
