Leslie Lynn Nonmacher

April 19, 1918 — October 16, 2010

Leslie Lynn Nonmacher passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at his home.  He spent his final days enjoying visits from family and friends.
Leslie was born on a farm in Rock House, Texas on April 19, 1918.  His father was a blacksmith and Les developed a love for fixing things.
He graduated from high school and later married Betty Thompson in 1939.  He was throughout his lifetime, a very hard working man, sometimes working three jobs at a time.  During his long career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company he worked his way to the position of Engineer and enjoyed various assignments in Victoria, Houston, San Antonio, St. Louis and Austin.  Once health issues forced his retirement he and Betty moved to the Valley to begin another adventure as citrus growers.  Bet-Les Citrus farms was formed.
Grandpa, as he was known to his grandkids, thrived as a "retiree".  He was meticulous about his orchard, diligent with the care of the trees and his record keeping.
Even as his health declined he remained positive, found joy in life, the beauty around him and even good food.
Leslie will be missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty and survived by his children, Merry Lynn Shuckman (Bob), John Nonmacher (Trudy), Susan Butcher (Jesse), six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and his caregivers who were dear friends, Angel, Rosa, Angel Jr., Noel and Rebecca Torres.
There will be a celebration of Leslie's life on Saturday, October 30, 2010, 2:00 PM, at Chachalaca Bend on Track 43 Road in Los Fresnos.
In lieu of flowers the family, while grateful, request donations be made to the charity of your choice.
