LeRoy Cole

LeRoy Cole, 94, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2008 at Retama Manor Nursing Home in Harlingen.
LeRoy was born on January 18, 1914 in Normangee, Texas to Ed and Ada Cole.  He moved to the Rio Grande Valley in 1925 and attended schools in Edinburgh, TX.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942, served with the Calvary F Troop and during WW II was a Supply Sgt. in the Army Air Corp.
After his military service LeRoy moved back the Valley and lived in Alamo, TX.  A few years later he met and married Joy Alice McLemoore on May 2, 1947 and they moved to Harlingen.  LeRoy worked for many years as a tractor mechanic with Lee Motor and Implement in Harlingen and also was a farmer in San Benito until his retirement in the late 70’s.
LeRoy loved to hunt, fish and raise birds as he was known for having a way with animals.
Survivors include his son, Rev. Robert (Bob) Cole and his wife, Latheta, of Combes; grandsons, Brian Cole and his wife, Karen of Canyon Lake, TX and Robert Cole of Atlanta, GA; six great-grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death his wife, Joy, on December 18, 1994, parents, five sisters, and one brother.
Visitation hours will be held from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Graveside services only will be held at Restlawn Memorial Park, 10:00 AM, Wednesday, March 26, 2008
The family request that those desiring to do so may make memorial donations to the Combes Baptist Church, Sign Fund, P.O. Box 598, Combes, TX 78535.
