Harlingen:
Larace “Larry” W. Clark, 88, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.
Larry was born on May 15, 1921 in Rusk, TX to Bernard Floyd and Winnie Mae Clark. He graduated in 1938 as Valedictorian of his class from Tarkington Prairie, Texas. He then served in the US Air Force as a pilot from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. He also tested new prototype planes during his service years and spent 2 years at Syracuse University during his pilot training.
Larry moved to the Valley in 1960. He was an avid long-time tennis player, being state ranked in many age divisions through out the years. He was an integral influence on many of the accomplished young Harlingen tennis players, playing many years with the kids at the HEB Tennis Center. He had many tennis friends from his years of playing in Harlingen. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Harlingen.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Tressie Josephine Clark of Harlingen; daughter, Dr. Nancy Clark of Harlingen; sons, Leslie W. Clark and Richard B. Clark both of Harlingen; 4 grandchildren, Mark Anthony Clark, Leslie Karen Clark, Catherine Ann Clark and Richard Andrew Clark all of Harlingen. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Floy Mae Clark Goldman.
Visitation hours will be held from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, March 1, 2010 at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 3:00 PM, Tuesday, March 2, 2010 with the Rev. Chris Hall officiating. Burial will follow with Full Military Honors at Heavenly Grace Memorial Park.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Larry Elliff, Graham McCullough, Louis Ikerd, John Kunich, Glen Williams and Coach Myer’s. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mark Anthony Clark, Leslie Karen Clark, Catherine Ann Clark, Richard Andrew Clark, Larry Branson, Horace Russell and James Russell.
The family request that those desiring to do so may make memorial donations to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 501 E. Van Buren, Harlingen, Texas 78550.
