Kenneth Weyand

Kenneth M. Weyand, 92, passed away on April 9, 2009 at Golden Palms Nursing Center.
Kenneth was born November 21, 1916 in Peru, Illinois to Bernard and Florence Greiner Weyand.  He graduated from L –P Township H.S. in 1935 and married Christine H. Furar July 26, 1941 in St. Roch’s Catholic Church in La Salle, Illinois. Kenneth served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was master tool and die maker in the “Tool Room” with Westclox and retired in 1978 after 43 years of loyal service.  Kenneth and Christine were Winter Texans from 1978 to 1992 and became permanent residents of Harlingen, Texas in 1992.
He was a member of the American Legion, the Quarter Century Club of Westclox, a former member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Peru, Illinois, a current member and former lector of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Harlingen, Texas. Kenneth was also a member of the Calvert’s Council of the Knights of Columbus, the Machinist’s Union, the Harlingen Elks Lodge, former member of Mendota Elks, the St. Stephen’s Society of St. Hyacinth’s Church in LaSalle, the Holy Name Society of St. Joseph’s Church in Peru, Illinois, a former board member of the Boy Scout Troop No. 12 of St Joseph Church and the Starved Rock Rambler Camping Club.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents.
He leaves behind his wife of 67 years Christine H. Weyand; four children, Lynette Agre of O’Fallon, MO, Kenneth (Phyllis) Weyand of rural Wyanet, Illinois, Richard (Wendy Teller) Weyand of Naperville, Illinois, and Elaine (Robert Albani) Weyand of Tucson, Arizona; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren; two sisters, Bernardine Johnson of rural LaSalle, Illinois and Florence Hallen of Lacon, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held at Queen of Peace Catholic Church on Monday, April 13, 2009 at 10 a.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
