Kenneth F. Markwardt, 84, of Harlingen, Texas, formally of Nashville, Illinois, passed away at 7:15 A.M. on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Veranda Health Care Center in Harlingen.
He was born on November 17, 1927 in Nashville, the son of William and Louise Freimuth  Markwardt Sr.  He first married Betty Jones on April 11, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nashville and she passed away on January 17th 2001. He then married Ruth Dinges in 2003 and she survives in Harlingen.
Also surviving is a son; Robert M. (Laurie) Markwardt of Rising Sun, MD; a brother, Charles (Doris) of Lincoln, IL; a sister, Lillian (Dennis) Larson of MN; three grandchildren, Brent Markwardt of Bel Air, MD, Stephanie Gillespie and Michele Young both of Baltimore, MD.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother William Markwardt, Jr.
Mr. Markwardt was a veteran of the United States Army who served during the Korean War. He retired as a machinist with Owens Illinois Glass Company in Godfrey, IL.  He was of the Lutheran faith and a former volunteer with the Betsy Ann Fire Department in Brighton, IL.
Upon his retirement from Owens, he and Betty moved to Sunshine Country Club and Estates in Harlingen, TX. Ken kept busy working on many projects and served on the Sunshine Country Club board for four years. He loved spending time on the Laguna madre fishing for "Big Reds" and working of his golf games.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 20, 2012.
