Kenneth Gene Coleman

December 4, 1934 — November 1, 2007

HARLINGEN:
Kenneth Gene Coleman beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away peacefully at home on November 1, 2007, in the arms of his beloved wife of 53 years and his daughter.  Born to Clifford Paul Coleman and Ruth Estelle Johnson on December 4, 1934, in Gregory, Texas, Ken grew up in West Texas.  At the age of 17, he joined the United States Marine Corps in 1952.  Shortly thereafter, he was sent to Japan where he met and married the great love of his life, Yoshie Asai.  In 1958, Ken and Yoshie came to the United States, eventually making their home in West Texas where Ken began his work in petroleum while completing two years of college.  In 1994, Ken retired and eventually moved to Rio Hondo with Yoshie in 2001.  Prior to becoming ill, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, and talking about politics.  He will be remembered for speaking his mind, his wonderful sense of humor even in the midst of his lengthy illness, and his positive attitude.
He is survived by his loving wife, Yoshie of Rio Hondo, Texas; three children, Larry (Lori) of Odessa, Texas, Jason of Christensburg, Virginia, and Sharon (John Roberts) of Edinburg, Texas; as well as three grandchildren, Sandra, Pamela, and Sean; and one great grandson, Shane.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck-Ashcraft Funeral Home in Harlingen, Texas.  A memorial service is planned for Community Church of Rio Hondo, 122 Mira Mar, Rio Hondo, Texas on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at 11:00 A.M., Sean Roberts, his grandson, preaching.
Ken’s family rests with the peace that he had accepted Christ as his Savior and is pain-free in the arms of the Lord. Towards the end of his life, he found comfort in the 23rd Psalm:  The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want…            You are invited to sign the guestbook online at www.buck-ashcraft.com.
