Kelvyn Joe "Pepe" McCarley, age 70, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2024, in Harlingen, Texas. He was born on January 26, 1954, in Harlingen to Clint Weldon and Carolyn McCarley.
Kelvyn graduated from Harlingen High School and furthered his education at Pan University in Edinburg Texas, where he earned a bachelor's degree. He continued his academic journey at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, furthering his studies in the arts. Additionally, he completed an apprenticeship at Virginia Museum Theatre in Richmond, Virginia, and undertook an internship at the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina. He also pursued graduate studies at the Dallas Theatre Center in Dallas, Texas.
His professional career began at Neiman Marcus in Dallas, Texas, from 1980 to 1982, where he started as a waiter and advanced to commission sales in ladies' shoes. During his time there, Kelvyn received the Top Sales Award for two consecutive years. He then spent a year at Bloomingdale's in Dallas, initially as a waiter and later as an assistant manager. From 1983 to 1989, he worked at Lomas Financial in Dallas, starting as a reprographic clerk before advancing to the role of manager for intercompany accounts. Between 1990 and 1993, Kelvyn was self-employed as a Performing Arts Consultant and served at Dillards in Dallas from 1990 to 1998, where he was recognized for seven years of top sales performance. From 1998 to 2001, he held the position of Technical Theatre Director at Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas, starting as a substitute teacher and transitioning to a full-time role.
Kelvyn was actively engaged in his community, serving as Chairman of the Ryan White Committee in Dallas and holding a position on the board of directors for HSNT in Denton. He was a member of the Texas Educational Theatre Association, Treasure Hills Presbyterian Church, and the Cathedral of Hope in Dallas.
In his leisure time, Kelvyn enjoyed gardening, set designing, building stage sets, visiting the beach, and traveling throughout Europe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clint and Carolyn McCarley, as well as his brother, Clint Weldon McCarley Jr. He is survived by his siblings, Philip Allen McCarley and Charles A. McCarley, along with his nephews, Bryan McCarley of Denver and Michael McCarley of San Diego.
The family extends their gratitude to Health Services of North Texas and Renal Care of Texas for their compassionate care.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Treasure Hills Presbyterian Church, located at 2120 N Ed Carey Dr, Harlingen, TX 78550.
