JULIA MARTINEZ

November 4, 1919 — December 4, 2008

Harlingen, Texas
Julia “Chita” Estrada Martinez
Grandma Julia was called to be with the Lord on December 4, 2008 at Valley Baptist surrounded by her family. All of her life she loved everyone who came before her. She was a “Grandma” to anyone who needed one. She raised eight children and helped raise her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Julia loved to have her house full of family and friends. She was most relaxed and at peace when the children would be at her house running around and making noise. She always gave helpful and wise advice to all of us. Julia loved to sew. You could find fabric swatches all over her room for her quilt making. She put all of her heart and soul into her beloved quilts. Grandma tried feeding you from the time you arrived at her house until the time you left. She was famous for her homemade biscuit and chicken and dumplings. Julia gave all who knew her memories to last all of our lifetimes. Julia built a solid foundation for her family and the generations to come. Though it makes us sad that she will no longer walk on this Earth with us, we are happy in our hearts that she is walking with Jesus and those who left before her; especially her deceased grandson, Hector.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Ernesto and Enera Estrada; brothers, Arturo and Rogelio; husband of over 50 years, Filomeno Martinez, grandsons, Freddy Mata and Hector Carrizales Jr. She is survived by brother Ernesto (Catarina+) Estrada Jr; sisters, Herminia (Armando+) Ramirez, and Flora (Jose) Naranjo; sons, Federico (Marcia Lynn) Martinez, Jesus (Ester) Martinez, Santiago (Victoria) Martinez; daughters, Anita Cantu, Olga Mata, Viola (Roberto) Garcia, Julia (Jacinto) Tamez, and Yolanda Carrizales; 24 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren, and 6 great great-grandchildren.
