Ms. Janie Sanchez was a very accomplished woman who was born July 18, 1951 in Mercedes, TX. After graduating from Mercedes High School, her parents being migrants, she went north to Michigan. In Michigan she attended Central Michigan University and graduated on December 1991 with all the requirements set forth by the Hispanic Leadership Development Program. After concentrating on her education Janie Sanchez married Thomas Solano the year of 1994 becoming Mrs. Janie Sanchez-Solano. She went back to continuing her education and in May 2001 she graduated from Wayne State University with a Master’s in Social Work. Being a dedicated and educated woman she graduated from The Burke Institute on March 2005 with The Certificate of Proficiency in Qualitative Research. Janie Sanchez-Solano always strived for more and higher goals. She had several affiliations which consisted of Board of Director of Detroit International Institute, Board of Director for Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation, Board of Director for Michigan Avenue Business Association, Board of Director for Southwest Detroit Business Association, member of the National Association of Social Workers, organizer of the 5k Health Race around Clark Park, Order of the Eastern Star, and the American Welding Society.
Mrs. Janie Sanchez-Solano used her and her husband, Thomas Solano’s, education and knowledge to start up alongside each other their own business now known as Allied Skills Training Center, The Welding School. Janie Sanchez-Solano became the Director for the school and took care that the school was successful. She associated with the Texas Workforce Commission, Motivation Education and Training Incorporated, Veterans Administration, the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services and partnered with Ignite Public Schools a year ago to have the ability to open opportunities to those interested in Welding but needed a form of aid. While playing her role as School Director Janie Sanchez-Solano was a sponsor for the RGV Livestock Show, Little Miss Kickball Sponsor, was involved with BISD and attended fairs at different schools, Youth programs, offered computer program classes, and found every opportunity to be involved with the community.
Not long ago, on May 2013 Janie Sanchez-Solano sadly found out that she suffered from cancer. She was a tough woman who aside her poor health she was keeping herself involved with the welding school as well as with her family. After fighting the cancer she entered remission on December 2013 only to have the cancer come back on January 2014. Things started to go downhill for her but she kept herself strong and brave.
Janie Sanchez-Solano was an amazing wife, sister, boss, friend and in general a great person. She accomplished so much and has left great memories behind.
She is survived by her husband Thomas Solano; siblings, Dora, Elida, Maria and Tony; grandchildren, Gloria, Savanna, Jacob and Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2014 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Monday, April 7, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home in Harlingen, TX.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2014, 10 a.m., at Our Heavenly Father Catholic Church in Olmito, TX. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco, TX.
