Juanita B. Gomez

Juanita B. Gomez, 83, a native of San Benito, Texas, passed peacefully from this life on Friday, November 24, 2017.  She was born to Juan Barrientes and Angelita Sabedra Barrientes on November 30, 1933.

Juanita served the children of San Benito for many years as a Nutrition Dietician with the SBCISD Child Nutrition Department.  She was a life-long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in San Benito where she sang in the choir, was a scripture reader, and loved baking cakes for the church’s annual bazaar.  Juanita loved dancing and was a big fan of the San Benito Greyhounds.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Angelita Barrientes, her stepmother Lillia Barrientes, her sister Iris Barrientes, her late husband Bernardo Vazquez, and great-granddaughter Carelyna Martinez.

Left to treasure Juanita’s memory are her husband of 54 years, Teodoro Gomez, her children, Isabel (Abel) Martinez, and Sergio (Sara) Vasquez, her brothers Guillermo (Andrea) Barrientes, Leonel Barrientes, Jesus (Lourdes) Barrientes, Hector Barrientes, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation and viewing will be Wednesday, November 29, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in San Benito. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
