Juana Saldana Herrera, 90, passed away peacefully October 19, 2024, in Brownsville, Texas. She was born May 6, 1934, in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico to Esteban Saldana and Socorro Gutierrez Saldana.
Throughout her life, Juana dedicated 20 years to serving as a hotel housekeeper and provider, roles that reflected her commitment to caring for others. In 1999, she proudly became a U.S. citizen, a significant milestone that she cherished deeply. Juana was an active member of the Herrera Fraternal Club and practiced her Catholic faith diligently. She was also an avid fan of the Houston Astros and the Dallas Cowboys.
She is preceded in death by her siblings, Natividad Saldana, Isidoro Saldana, Maria Bautista, and Eladia Bautista.
Left to treasure Juana’s memory are her children, Maggie Herrera-Neal (Michael), Nila Gaytan (Cesar), Delma Farias (Francisco), Pedro Herrera, Felipe Herrera (Belinda), Nellie Gilbert (John), Agapito Herrera (Lucy), Leticia Noriega (Joe), Alicia Cumpian (Fred), Imelda Sauceda (Javier), Veronica Galvan (Juan), JJ Sanchez (Linda); her sister, Teresa S. Villegas along with 20 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Valley Regional Medical Center for the compassionate care and treatment provided to our Mother the last days of her life.
The Herrera family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 o’clock Tuesday evening. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Los Cuates Cemetery in Los Fresnos, Texas.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Josue Farias, Felipe Herrera Jr., Leroy Herrera, Marco Noriega, Fred Cumpian Jr, and Michael Sauceda. Honorary pallbearers will be Cesarito Gaytan and Nicholas Gaytan.
