Juan Soria Perez

RIO HONDO, TX. – Juan Soria Perez, born on February 12, 1938 in Rio Hondo, died on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen. He was 77 years old.
Juan married the love of his life, Anita Reyes Perez, on March 28, 1967. He assisted with licensed and contracted steel work when the Queen Isabella Causeway was being constructed between Port Isabel and South Padre Island. Later, Juan worked at the Rio Grande State Hospital in Harlingen for twenty years, retiring in 1995.
He enjoyed the outdoors; fishing and hunting, as well as the great love he had for all animals, and farming. Juan loved watching Animal Planet on TV, and loved boxing since childhood. His lifetime was dedicated to his family, and his grandchildren were his joy. As a Christian member of the Cristo Es La Roca Church, his life was also dedicated to the Lord.
Survivors include his loving wife of forty-eight years, Anita R. Perez; three sons Gilberto (Norma) Perez, Juan, Jr. (Toni) Perez, and Ruben (Janie) Perez; two daughters, Melissa (Ruben) Rodriguez and Marisa (Peter) Cruz; as well as eighteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visiting hours are on Monday, October 12, 2015, beginning at three o’clock in the afternoon and concluding at nine o’clock at night, with a prayer service to begin at seven o’clock Monday evening within the San Benito Funeral Home Chapel, 1400 West Highway 77, San Benito, Texas 78586.
A chapel service will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at ten o’clock in the morning, with Pastor Frank Cantu officiating. Interment will then follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.
Juan was a man of great faith and had a passion for Christ. He will be remembered for having a nickname for everybody.
