Joyce Jean Brady Burley, July 30, 1925, passed away quietly on March 29, 2017. She was loving and tender hearted, with an endearing smile and joyful spirit. Born to Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Brady, Joyce lived the majority of her 91 years in San Benito, Texas. Following her graduation from San Benito High School, she attended school in Saltillo, Mexico. This was an easy transition as she was fluent in Spanish.
During World War II, she met the love of her life, Mr. Robert E. Burley, Sr., (formerly of Troy, Ohio). He was in Laredo serving in the United States Army Air Corps and on December 25, 1944, they were married. Their celebration of 72 remarkable years of marriage exemplified their love for each other.
Joyce, a devout Christian, was a lifelong member of the San Benito Church of Christ. She participated in many church activities and her life was a testament to her strength through faith.
Joyce had a great appreciation for art, a love of nature and appreciated the simpler things in life. She had a special fondness for butterflies and one of her favorite memories was traveling to Mexico to see the migration of the monarchs.
She was recognized for her work at the Cameron County Farm Bureau, and enjoyed her membership with the local PEO chapter and Red Hat Society. Joyce had a passion for life and cherished her family. She leaves us with wonderful memories and will be deeply missed. She will, forever, hold a special place in our hearts.
Our sincere thanks go to the care givers and hospice nurses who cared for her with such love and compassion.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Brady, and her only sister, Billie Marie Snowden.
She is survived by her loving husband, Mr. Robert E. Burley, Sr., children, Rob Burley, B.J. Schweers (Gordon), grandchildren, Kate Richey, Tommy Richey, Heather Conley (Matt), Brady Burley (Nadia) and 5 great grandchildren.
