Jose Guadalupe “Lupe” Rodriguez, 92, peacefully passed from this life on Saturday, November 28, 2020. He was born to Crecencio and Gertrudis Rodriguez on January 28, 1928 in El Calaboz, Texas.
Lupe proudly served in the U.S. Army, Company M 32nd Infantry Division and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. He was a valued employee of Edelstein’s Furniture for 43 years.
In his free time, Lupe enjoyed barbecuing, farming, dancing, gardening, cooking, and carpentry.
Left to treasure his memory are Lupe’s wife, Maria Enriqueta Rodriguez; daughter, Maria Melida Gonzalez; grandchildren, Brenda Lee Gaitan, Stacey Lee Gonzalez, and Richard Eric Gonzalez; brothers, Crecencio C. Rodriguez, Jr., Jose C. Rodriguez, Manuel C. Rodriguez, Crecencio “Chencho” Rodriguez; and sister, Estela C. Rodriguez. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jose Cavazos Rodriguez, Plutarco Rodriguez, Guadalupe Cavazos Rodriguez, Rosalio “Chalo” Cavazos Rodriguez; sisters, Maria V. Rodriguez, Elida C. Rodriguez, and Maria L. Rodriguez.
The Rodriguez family thanks Dr. Gonzalez of WellMed, Dr. Lopez of San Benito Medical Associates, and the hospice staff of Elora.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 o’clock on Tuesday evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. Following the Mass, Lupe will be laid to rest with full military honors at El Calaboz Cemetery.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Richard Eric Gonzalez, Juan Medina, Jr., Eduardo Moreno, Saul Villarreal, Manuel Rodriguez, Jr., and Luis Liendo. Crecencio C. “Borrado” Rodriguez, Jr., Crecencio “Chencho” Rodriguez, Jose C. “Joe” Rodriguez, and Manuel C. “Meme” Rodriguez will serve as honorary pallbearers.
