Joseph (Joe) Furcron

Joseph (Joe) Furcron, 76 passed away on February 8, 2007, at Harlingen Medical Center due to complications from diabetes. Joe was born September 13, 1930, to Pat and Anna Mary Furcron in Elberton, GA. After 23 years in the retail business with Sears and Montgomery Ward, he began his real estate career in 1970 selling recreation property in Aquia Harbor, Va., then RV sites in Ohio and Nocona Hills, TX. In 1978 Joe and his wife Maude moved to South Padre Island where he went to work for Outdoor Resorts selling RV lots and Sea Cottages while Maude joined Troy Giles Realty. Joe then joined Troy Giles as well as sales manager. In 1985 he and Maude started Furcron Realtors and built it and Furcron Property Management Co. into one of the top producing real estate offices specializing in real estate sales, rental management and property management. His son and partner Mickey Furcron will continue the business without interruption.
As a Realtor since 1980, Joe was very active in the Brownsville South Padre Island Board of Realtors as well as the Texas Association of Realtors. He was named Realtor of the year in 1990 and served as board president, many years as a director, and chaired numerous committees. At the state level he was a state director for 8 years. He earned the Graduate Realtor Institute designation as well as the Certified Residential Specialist and Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager designations.
Joe was well respected not only as a Realtor but as a community servant. He served on the South Padre Island Board of Adjustments and Appeals for over 15 years. His sense of service is also demonstrated by the fact that he earned the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America, that of Eagle Scout.
Joe is survived by his brother William (Valera) Furcron of Anderson, SC; children Patti Fetter and husband Kevin of Fredericksburg, VA., Tom Furcron of Goldsboro, NC., Mickey Furcron and wife Lilla of South Padre Island, TX; grandchildren Amanda Fetter of Fredericksburg, VA, Jason Furcron of Abilene, TX, Jennifer Furcron of Staunton, VA, and Joey Furcron of South Padre Island, TX.. Joe was preceded in death by his wife Maude Furcron and his parents Pat and Anna Mary Furcron.
Memorial services will be held on Monday February 12, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Island Baptist Church in South Padre Island, TX. A reception will follow the service.
