Josefina Nuez

August 27, 1935 — April 6, 2013

Laguna Vista, TX:
Josefina Nuez, 77, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.
Josefina was born August 27, 1935 in Havana, Cuba to Augustine and Benigna Ayan.
She was affectionately known as “Fina” by her family and friends.  Fina came to the United States in February 13, 1963 with her husband and daughter.  They lived in Rochester, New York for over 43 years.  During that time she was very active in her church and the Cuban Lyceum.  She was known for her servant heart.  She always offered a helping hand to anyone in need, whether it was a new Cuban refugee in the community or someone in need at church.  She loved children.  She took care of infants and toddlers for over 20 years while her daughters went to school and college.  She loved to cook and no one ever left her home hungry. It is said that her chicken soup had medicinal powers. She also loved to garden. She had over 100 rose bushes in her yard.
In the fall of 2006 she moved to Laguna Vista, Texas.  Here she continued sharing her gifts of cooking, gardening, babysitting and being a disciple for the Lord. Her greatest joy was her family.  She was very proud of her daughters, their spouses and grandchildren.  She loved sharing stories from her life in Cuba and how the Lord continued to bless her in the United States.
Josefina is survived by daughters, Maria Hall of Laguna Vista, TX, Annette and husband, Edward Mark Turner of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Nicole Hall, Edward Hall, Caleb Turner and Rachel Turner.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ’s Harbor Church in Laguna Vista.
