Josefa Aguirre

Josefa Aguirre passed peacefully from this life in Harlingen, TX at the age of 102.  She was born to the late Ezekiel Arenas and Guadalupe Rodriguez on March 19, 1917 in Cd. Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico.

Josefa enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.  She was of the Catholic faith and a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in San Benito.

Her husband, Jesus Miranda, Sr. preceded Josefa in death.  Several years later, she married Anselmo Aguirre who also preceded Josefa in death. Josefa's daughters, Lupita Miranda, Flora Miranda, Josefa Adame, and Graciela Vasquez and her sons, Alfonso Miranda, Prudencio Miranda, Guadalupe Miranda, Jesus Miranda, Jr., and Ramon Miranda also preceded her in death.

Left to treasure her memory and legacy are her children, Rosa Calleros of Houston, TX, Hortencia Rincones of Houston, TX, Maria De Luna of Houston, TX, Juan (Maria) Miranda of Harlingen, TX, Jesusa (Arturo) Cantu of Weslaco, TX, Flora (Juan) Medrano of Harlingen, TX; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 19, from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM at San Benito Funeral Home.  A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 o’clock on Thursday evening.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 20 at St. Theresa Catholic Church.  Interment will follow at San Benito Memorial Park.

Honored to serve as active pallbearers are Jesse De Luna, David Cisneros, Jr., Juan Miranda, Jr., Adrian Hernandez, Mark Vasquez, and Francisco Juarez, Jr.  Honorary pallbearers are Benito Gonzalez, Pete Adame, Jr., Arturo Miranda, and Julian Rincones.

Josefa’s family wishes to thank the staff of Veranda Rehabilitation and Healthcare for their compassionate care of Josefa while she was a resident there.
